VAT (GST) rates on books in the European Union

This extract from a pdf shows the rates of Value Added Tax (Goods and Services Tax) applied to books in the European Union (line 6).  The best of course are the UK, Ireland and Poland at zero.  But nearly everywhere else it is under 10%, except in Denmark and Bulgaria.  In NZ it is a whopping 15%, compared with 10% in Australia and no more than 8% in the USA (local sales taxes) and Canada (5%).  It shows how culturally unaware and brutish the present government is here (not that the Labour Party is any better).
