This funicular operated between 1891 to 1939. It ran uphill from near the harbour to Beacon Hill, at an altitude of approximately 150 metres or 500 ft, from Superior Street at 7th Avenue West to Skyline Drive. The roadbed was elevated on concrete footings with two large counterbalanced cars large enough to carry horses and passengers running on two parallel tracks. The cars were opened at the front and back to let passengers and horses in. The cable attached to the cars was pulled by a steam engine at the top.  At the top passengers could transfer to the Highland Park streetcar line, see below.
