The railway station
This industrial town, known for its iron and steel making, is just south of Luxembourg in the Lorraine region, known in German as Lothringen which along with Alsace has been fought over by the two countries for centuries.  Thionville was part of Germany's Second Reich 1871-1918 and naturally again during the Third Reich, called Diedenhofen. It is bisected by the Moselle River.

The metre-gauge tram system lasted from 1911 to 1953.
