This station was on the border of the Austro-Hungarian empire and Italy until 1918. At that time Pontebba consisted of two villages, the Italian speaking Pontebba and the German speaking Pontafel (part of Carinthia). After WW1, Italy, being on the side of the victors, was given more territory and the border was shifted north. The two villages were merged in 1924. The station was built in 1879, replaced with a new one in 1969(?).
