Settle Station Water Tower, England

The restoration and conversion of this into a home featured in series 2, episode 7 of the Channel 4 (UK) program Restoration Man.  The 73 mile (117 km) Settle to Carlisle railway line, built in the 1870s, is arguably England's most scenic and often sees steam-hauled excursion trains.  However, in the 1980s, the then British Rail wanted to close it. A group of enthusiasts, of which the owner of this building was one, managed to persuade the Conservative Secretary of Transport, Michael Portillo, to order British Rail to keep it open. Michael Portillo is a rail enthusiast and hosts a BBC series Great British Railway Journeys.
