HMS 'Astute' art

By Wallace Trickett. "This is the class leader of the Royal Navy's most modern hunter killer submarine fleet. She is more high-tech than the space shuttle was, could remain submerged for up to 25 years, only governed by crew and food duration with what is claimed as the safest nuclear reactors ever constructed, creating its own fresh water and fresh air. The crew have their own bunks, avoiding hot bunking which has always been used until now. The vessel's normal tour of duty is four months, but crew can remain on board for nine if a situation called for it.

"She is totally undetectable and can pick up a signal of a ship leaving a port 4,000 miles away while still in dock. She has two sisters at present, HMS Ambush and HMS Artful with several more to follow, all built at BAE Systems Barrow in Furness."

20 x30" on canvas board.
